Face of the Month - March, Nimue

Nimue has become a household name (You see her so much often at NV!) over the years her character has played here. And truly, we all do deserve to get to know this beautiful and charming Elohai Druid a bit more..!

RPC : What/Who got you started in roleplaying?

Oh…this is going to sound bad, but I first started roleplaying when I was appointed Nation Leader of the Half-Elves. Shingo had taken over the job temporarily, and somehow chose me as his replacement. I was thrown in at the deep end, so to speak, and had to learn what roleplaying was as I went along.

RPC : What's your preferred style of roleplay?

I don't know if I have a 'preferred' style, because I just love roleplaying in general. My usual style is the spontaneous, let's have some fun, anyone can join in style. However, I have done moderately 'scripted' RP in the past, and enjoyed that as well. Basically, I take whatever RP I can get.

RPC : What are your latest plans for roleplaying?

I don't have any real concrete plans right now, aside from the whole Nimue's pregnancy/having children thing, just because I'm having trouble finding time to RP lately.

RPC : When do you usually rp, and for how long?

Usually at night for some reason, that just seems to be when most of the people I play with are on, and when I'mon. I haven't been RPing much lately due to school and life and various other things. When I get involved in a scene, I'll play for as long as the scene goes on - sometimes to all hours of the night.

RPC : What is the main thing you look for in what you consider a good rp plot?

Well, two of the things really important to me are involvement and interaction . I like everyone who's going to be involved in the plot to be involved in creating the plot. I also like there to be a lot of personal interaction between characters, not just swordfights and dragonslaying. I also like the plots I participate in to affect my character in some deep way, because it makes a lot more interesting for me to RP, and for other people to 'watch' or read.

RPC : What's your favorite scene/s you have ever participated in, or not participated in but watched or seen a log/s of? Why?

This one is a toughy. I've done too many scenes and read too many scenes to remember them all! ;) One of my favourite recent scenes was the first meeting between Nimue and Syriac after she recovered from her 'death'. It was interesting because Syriac didn't now it was her, Nimue had blocked out her memories after being trapped in a tomb for years, and Lanthos was stuck in the middle. It also tied in with another plot, centering around the ancient Elohai city, which made it even more interesting. The character interactions and emotions just made it a very fun scene to participate in.
(RPC : Now, give us the log of it!)

RPC : What current plots are you working on, how can people join in if they want to?

I don't have really any current 'plots' going on right
now, due to my recent lack of mud-time. Right now I'm
more concerned with character development, because I
like to play around with the Nimue-character so she
stays at least moderately interesting. I'm always
open to spontaneous or fixed RP - if I'm online, I'm
usually bored, and would be more than happy to RP with anyone that wanted to.

RPC : What do you think is the most important element of a good character, a good story?

Development. Things have to change over time, or characters and stories get stagnant and boring. You have to mix things up a little, do the unexpected, and just keep things fun and moving.

RPC : We realized the name Nimue is Celtic, and it too being the name of the Lady of the Lake in Arthurian Legends. Is there any reason that made you choose this
name?

Well, I've always been fascinated by Arthurian Legends, and read any piece of Arthurian fiction I can get my hands on. When I first started playing RoD, all the names I were going to play were taken - and I forget what exact book I was reading at the time, but it has this name in it. So that's what I named my first mud character.

RPC : Nimue has been through at least a few roleplayed enturies in Realms. How might you describe the change in her character in a few stages?

Just a few stages eh? I'll try not to make it TOO long. ;) When she first appeared in Realms, she was young and naive, sort of overwhelmed with her sudden 'power' in being the Nation Leader. She abhored violence and did not know how to fight, so she always relied on other people to protect her.

After a while she became jaded due to all the violence she saw, and things she experianced, so she asked Braiden to help her learn how to fight and how to defend herself. Eventually, Nimue grow tired of always being hurt emotionally, so she turned to Menoch to teach her how to be cold and emotionless. She lost all her friends, and eventually gave up her position as Nation Leader.

It was soon after this that she 'died', and was locked in a tomb, only to reawaken and be trapped….which leads us basically up to where she is now. Nimue has now found love and is starting a family, but has lost her druidic powers and is plagued by nightmares.

RPC : A druid Nimue is, and what magical abilites does she have? Are these inherent, trained or learned through the various roleplays you have brought her into?

Nimue used to have a small measure of healing powers, as well as the ability to commune with plants, animals, and nature in general. She was a skilled herbalist and had a few neat druidic tricks. However, since her apparent death she's lost all these powers. The way I played Nimue's history, most of these abilities were learned from her mother, who was also a Druid, or through her learnings with the Druids at the academy.

RPC : We all know Nimue is pregnant right now. What does she hope her child/children grow up to be, and why?

She's hoping that they are like their father, of course! Well…because of the loss of her own Druidic powers, Nimue is hoping that she has a child who can take up what she lost, and become a Druid.

RPC : Now for a little personal nosiness. Tell us, well not in detail, how does Syriac show his love for Nimue.

Well, have you ever tried looking after a pregnant Half-Elf? It's not fun! Seriously though, Nimue's been through a lot lately, and needs constant reminders that he cares for her, because she feels she has been abandoned by most of the people she cares for. Syriac gives that to her, and takes care of her - right up to the 4am cravings for fried mushrooms!

RPC : Again, Eldestra. (We are never bored with asking this question) What is your favorite room in there, and do provide us the description and why indeed you like this room.

Hot Springs
Warm steam rises from the depths of several hot springs that bubble up from the ground here. The shrubbery and various vegetation are more sparse nearer the water, and the rocks are a curious peach color, veined with the usual gray. The waters give a very relaxing atmosphere, and here is no sound except for the soothing noises of the springs. These are the famed hot springs of Eldestra. Its waters are rumored to have healing properties
Exits: west
I love this room just because of its beautiful description, but also because it's quasi-private and out of the way, which makes it a fun room to RP and/or plot in.

RPC : What is the thing/things Nimue is afraid of? Spiders? Cockroaches? Or something much more intangible and less insectlike?

Nimue is afraid of being hurt again, and being abandoned. She doesn't like being alone. She's also terrified of losing Syriac, but she tries not to show her fear whenever she speaks of fighting or wars. But yes, after her run-in with the Drow Drider, she is a bit afraid of spiders. ;)
